SOMN Unveils Second Track from New Album with ‘Swarming Mass’
When ambition devours individual identity
Russian post-black metal band SOMN have released ‘Swarming Mass’, the second track from their upcoming second album, “Consecration”, due out internationally on November 20 via AOP Records. The new song offers another glimpse into the dark narrative that runs through the band’s latest work.

“Consecration” tells the story of a man crushed beneath the ambitions of others. Blind submission, the madness brought on by bloodshed, and the destruction of individual identity form the core of the album’s narrative. SOMN explore a world in which grand ideals and lofty words leave behind nothing but meaningless rivers of blood. The phrase “Thou shalt seek neither rest nor death” encapsulates the album’s dark thematic framework.
‘Swarming Mass’ follows the previously released ‘The Loyal Hand’ as the second track unveiled from the album. “Consecration” will feature four songs, with a total runtime of approximately 46 minutes. The album artwork was created by drummer Tim Yusupov.
SOMN were formed in Saint Petersburg in 2017 by guitarist Oleg Salnikov and drummer Timur Yusupov. The lineup was later completed by bassist Mikhail Kurochkin and guitarist Artem Selyugin. The band features musicians associated with underground acts such as SHOW ME A DINOSAUR, TRNA, and OLHAVA. Named after the god of sleep, SOMN build their music around conceptual narratives exploring trauma, deep-seated fears, and nightmares.
The band’s debut album, “The All-devouring”, was released on vinyl through Elusive Sound in 2019. In 2022, SOMN teamed up with fellow Saint Petersburg band WOWOD for the split EP “Obrechenie”, released through Church Road Records. “Consecration” marks the band’s first album release with AOP Records.
The album’s tracklist is as follows:
‘The Loyal Hand’ — 5:19
‘Tower of Flesh’ — 11:24
‘Swarming Mass’ — 8:44
‘Consecration’ — 10:56
“Consecration” is scheduled for international release on November 20 via AOP Records.
