Canadian blackened hardcore pioneers SPREAD THE DISEASE are bringing their decades-long silence to an end with a brand new album. The band is preparing to release its new full-length, The Darkness. The Dread. The Suffering., on July 10th via Hypaethral Records.

Emerging out of Southern Ontario in the late ’90s as a harsh and shadow-drenched project, the band carved out a sound that fused the icy atmosphere of black metal with the destructive force of hardcore, creating something distinctly ahead of its time. Long before the term “blackened hardcore” had entered common usage, the group had already forged its own identity, quickly earning cult status within underground circles.

Their 1998 debut, We Bleed From Many Wounds, drew attention through its violent synthesis of hardcore, death metal, and black metal influences, while the band’s chaotic live performances rapidly became the stuff of underground lore. Their appearance at Hellfest in 1999, in particular, is still remembered as one of the defining moments that cemented the band’s reputation within the extreme music scene.

After years apart, the band has reunited with a darker, more fully realized vision. Newly recruited vocalist Shane Post states that while the band retains the hostility of its earlier material, the new songs are fueled by the atmosphere of modern societal collapse. Themes such as social tension, denial of truth, religious manipulation, and collective alienation stand at the forefront of the album’s lyrical framework.

The first single unveiled from the record, “Gods And Politics,” serves as a furious statement centered on the destruction wrought by the intersection of religion and politics. Rather than merely leaning on nostalgia, the band aims to reshape the feral spirit of its past through a more experimental and intense approach.

Consisting of eight tracks, The Darkness. The Dread. The Suffering. will be released on CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Recording and mixing duties were handled by guitarist Dave Buschemeyer, while Greg Dawson took care of the mastering process.
