Seattle sludge metal trio STRICKEN have released ‘Dust From The Grave’ ahead of their second album, “From Dark Dimensions An Unspeakable Presence Awakens”. Running over 12 minutes, the track brings together sludge, doom and post-black metal while merging cosmic horror with humanity’s reckless relationship with nuclear waste. The track’s visualizer premiered via Decibel Magazine.

Drummer Chris Wozniak describes the song’s starting point as the intersection of the very real dangers posed by nuclear contamination and cosmic horror. In Wozniak’s view, the idea that nuclear waste can simply be buried and forgotten could eventually lead humanity to create a monster of its own making.

Tom Denney, who created the visualizer for ‘Dust From The Grave’ and designed the artwork for both STRICKEN albums, also incorporated footage of the Hanford nuclear site in eastern Washington into the video. Wozniak says these images expose humanity’s indifference towards nuclear waste and hazardous materials.

Due out on CD and digitally on November 6 via Horror Pain Gore Death Productions, “From Dark Dimensions An Unspeakable Presence Awakens” is the follow-up to the band’s 2022 debut, “From A Well Of Emptiness, A Stygian Serpent Born”. The five-track release explores themes of the dark subconscious, self-destruction, unspeakable horror, existential dread and nihilism. On the new material, heavy grooves and experimental arrangements push the boundaries of the band’s sludge- and doom-based approach.

The album was recorded by the band, with Nick Charlton handling engineering and Chris Wozniak taking care of the mix. Mastering was carried out at Plotkinworks by James Plotkin, whose credits include KHANATE, EARTH and AMAROK. The artwork is once again by Tom Denney.

STRICKEN plan to play regional shows following the album’s release and have already begun working on their next release.
