German melancholic heavy metal outfit THE NIGHT ETERNAL continues to build momentum ahead of the release of its upcoming album. The band has unveiled its new single, "Caught In A Spell," along with an official music video, both taken from Cold Velvet, which is set for release on August 21 via Metal Blade Records.
The new track once again showcases the band's ability to merge a dark, brooding atmosphere with a melodic heavy metal approach. THE NIGHT ETERNAL describes "Caught In A Spell" as a composition that captures the spirit of nighttime drives, propelled by hypnotic rhythms and powerful, sing-along choruses. Directed by Robert Piel, the accompanying video follows the cinematic road journey of a Harley-Davidson-riding knight, visually reinforcing the song's immersive atmosphere.
Formed in 2018, THE NIGHT ETERNAL quickly established itself with a sound that blends the guitar-driven heavy metal traditions of the '70s and '80s with a distinctly gothic and shadowy aesthetic. The band's previous full-length releases, Moonlit Cross (2021) and Fatale (2023), earned praise from both critics and fans, while extensive touring saw them share the stage with renowned acts such as Blind Guardian, Michael Schenker Group, Angel Witch, and Lucifer, as well as perform at some of Europe's leading festivals.
Consisting of eight tracks, Cold Velvet is being presented as the band's most ambitious work to date. The album is said to fuse elements of gothic rock, classic heavy metal, and hard rock through dark melodies, ritualistic rhythms, and memorable vocal hooks. Recorded between May and December 2025 at Church Of Sound Studios near Munich, the album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Secrets Of The Moon guitarist and acclaimed producer Michael Zech.
Cold Velvet will be released on August 21 on CD, digital platforms, and a range of limited-edition vinyl variants. Following the album's release, THE NIGHT ETERNAL will embark on an extensive European tour, including special release shows in Germany and additional dates across Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy. On selected stops, the band will share the stage with Italian doom metal outfit Messa.
