Hailing from Karelia, THEODOR BASTARD are returning with their new studio album "▽" after a six-year hiatus. Due out via Season of Mist on November 13, 2026, the album retains the band's identity rooted in ritual folk and world music while marking a harder and more restless return to their electronic roots.

The first sign of this new direction is the album's lead single, 'Sverkay'. Driven by distorted bass, the track is built around trap-influenced rhythms, while Yana Veva's vocals look toward a future shaped by war, technology, and social division. The song's music video was also released alongside the album announcement.

The world THEODOR BASTARD create on "▽" marks a clear departure from the softer, more organic textures of the band's earlier period. Produced by Fedor Svolotch, the album brings analog synthesizers and electronic rhythms together with elements of darkwave, indietronica, post-punk, and neo-psychedelia within the band's ritual folk approach. According to the band, the aim was not to reproduce formulas from the past, but to treat THEODOR BASTARD's musical identity as a new starting point.

This transformation had already begun to reveal itself before the album. The analog synthesizers used on the band's track 'Nebo' appeared last year in the award-winning Russian crime drama "The Method". With "▽", however, the band takes that electronic thread considerably further.

The album's dark atmosphere is not limited to its musical choices. The pandemic, war, fear, social division, and the growing influence of technology on everyday life form the backdrop to THEODOR BASTARD's new work. Svolotch explains that the changes in the world have also changed the band's sound, suggesting that "▽" should not be viewed as a continuation of their previous work, but as a new door.

This approach manifests itself in different ways across the album's tracks. 'Vedma' stands out for its more aggressive electronic texture, while 'Ditya' combines electronic dance music with gospel and blues influences. 'Ostavlyaem', meanwhile, takes on a lighter character within the album's dark atmosphere, bringing the ritual dimension of the band's music back to the forefront.

THEODOR BASTARD did not work alone on "▽". Harpist Christine Kazarian, bassist Eli H, drummer Vyacheslav Nikiforov, flautist and backing vocalist Maria Starostina, guitarist Maxim Kostyunin, and Gale Dorothy, who provides vocals on the opening track 'Molnii i Svist', all contributed to the album's recording lineup.

Produced by Fedor Svolotch, who also handled the recording and mixing, the album was recorded at Theo Records. Mastering was handled by Boris Istomin at Knob Studio. The cover artwork was created by Svolotch, while the visual layout was designed by Yana Veva and Fedor Svolotch; photography comes from Dmitry Kazakov.

THEODOR BASTARD was founded as a solo project by Fedor Svolotch in 1995 and evolved into a seven-member band during the 2000s. Blurring the boundaries between ritual folk, electronic, and world music, the band have released eight studio albums to date. Their 2020 album "Volch’ya Yagoda" was their last release before the six-year studio silence.

The new album "▽" will be released via Season of Mist on November 13, 2026. Running at 40 minutes and 42 seconds, it features 10 tracks. 'Sverkay', meanwhile, is now available as the first official single from THEODOR BASTARD's new era.
