THREESTEPSTOTHEOCEAN Release First Album in Six Years
Six Years Later, Impermanence Takes Shape
Italian instrumental post-metal quartet THREESTEPSTOTHEOCEAN have released “Death of Permanence” via Subsound Records, six years after their previous studio album. The record also stands out for its collaborations with other artists, which take the band beyond its established instrumental approach.

“Death of Permanence” revolves around the inevitability of change. Exploring how places, beliefs, relationships and the worlds people build around themselves transform over time or disappear altogether, the album focuses on the search for a new direction rather than a return to the past. This approach is also reflected in the band’s gradual departure from its earlier period while retaining the musical identity it has developed over nearly two decades of activity.
The album’s collaborations broaden the musical scope of this transformation. Sardinian artist Dalila Kayros, Conny Ochs and Larry Stromberg contribute to the record in different ways, while Moonlit also takes part with instrumental orchestrations. In doing so, THREESTEPSTOTHEOCEAN make room for different sounds and forms of expression without completely abandoning their instrumental post-metal foundations.
“Death of Permanence” was recorded and mixed by Stefano Santi at SPVN Studio in February and March 2026, with additional recording handled by Francesco Tosi. Mastering was completed by Giovanni Versari at La Maestà Mastering. The cover features Alexander Krack’s photograph “The Treatment”, while the visual design and layout are by Riccardo Giacomin.
The album is available on vinyl, CD and digital formats via Subsound Records.
