TRAPPIST to Release “Gutter Monks” in Two Different Formats
TRAPPIST’s Barrel-Aged Tracks Finally Emerge
Los Angeles-based TRAPPIST will release its new ten-track EP, “Gutter Monks,” on December 4 via Tankcrimes. Alongside a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl pressing, the band will also issue Gutter Monks – Imperial Edition on CD and digital formats. The 25-track edition includes material from the band’s previous split releases and a previously unreleased bonus track.

The story behind “Gutter Monks” follows a timeline that differs from the usual album-making process. TRAPPIST members Brother Vera, Brother Harkins, and Brother Dodge began working on the EP’s songs in 2022. According to the band, the ten completed tracks were left to age in a wooden barrel for four years before their release. This narrative fits the band’s approach to brewing and monastic imagery, which has become part of its musical identity and extends from the album’s title to its presentation.
‘Let’s Firkin Go’ is the first track from the EP to be made available for streaming, offering an initial taste of the new release.
The vinyl edition will feature all ten tracks in a Crass-style, 12-panel fold-out poster sleeve. It will be available in two color variants: Swamp Green, limited to 300 copies, and Crystal Clear, limited to 500. The CD and digital editions of Gutter Monks – Imperial Edition will combine the EP with TRAPPIST’s contributions to its split releases with HETZE and CONNOISSEUR, its flexi-disc recording for Decibel Magazine, and a previously unreleased track.
Preorders are now available for the physical editions, including the 7-inch vinyl and CD) editions. The digital edition can also be ordered online.
