Confronting Collective Indifference
French alternative rock and post-hardcore quartet UNTITLED WITH DRUMS have released the official lyric video for their new single “Oblivious” ahead of their upcoming second album, “Made Flesh.” With their latest track, the band moves beyond personal introspection and turns their focus toward the broader picture, addressing society’s growing desensitization and the psychological dead ends created by the modern world.
Hailing from Clermont-Ferrand, the band’s new offering serves as the third preview from “Made Flesh.” Set for release on August 21st via Season of Mist, “Oblivious” delivers a faster, heavier, and rougher atmosphere compared to the previously released singles. The band describes it as one of the songs they enjoy performing live the most.
“Oblivious” focuses on the collective indifference humanity has developed toward everything happening around it. The song explores the tension between those who can clearly see reality but feel powerless to create change, and a blind impulse that only seeks constant progress and consumption. Through this contrast, UNTITLED WITH DRUMS build a dark narrative around modern humanity’s inability to recognize its own potential and the inner burden that comes with it.
The visual work accompanying the new single brings the track’s more organic and ’90s-inspired approach into a visual form. Created by Martin Le Borgne, the video takes digitally generated imagery, projects it onto an old CRT television, and then reworks it through analog camera techniques and video mixing equipment to create a nostalgic aesthetic.
“Oblivious” is one of the ten tracks featured on the band’s second album, “Made Flesh.” Recorded at Halle du Jeu de Paume in France, the album’s production and mixing were handled by Cyrille Gachet. The mastering was completed by Alan Douches, known for his work with acts such as Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, and Every Time I Die.
Having been making music together for more than a decade, UNTITLED WITH DRUMS gained significant live experience following the release of their debut album “Hollow” during the pandemic era. The band appeared at events such as Hellfest Open Air, Nuits de Fourvière, and Desertfest London, while also sharing the stage with Deftones.
With “Made Flesh,” the band further develops their distinctive sound, combining the atmospheric side of alternative rock, the legacy of ’90s post-hardcore, and more experimental textures. Lucas D.’s powerful guitar layers, Nicolas Z.’s expanding keyboard arrangements, Rémy D.’s dynamic drumming, and Martin L.B.’s intense vocal delivery form the foundation of the album.
With their new record, UNTITLED WITH DRUMS aim not only to create a heavy musical expression but also to confront the unsettling realities of modern humanity head-on. “Oblivious” stands out as one of the strongest examples of this approach.
