VÉHÉMENCE Reimagines Its Debut Album
French medieval-themed black metal outfit VÉHÉMENCE has completely reinterpreted its debut album, a record widely regarded as one of the cornerstones of the band's career. Titled Assiégé pour l'Eternité, the release offers far more than a straightforward rerecording of the group's 2014 debut.
Originally released in digital format and gradually becoming an important reference point in the development of the “medieval black metal” approach, the album laid the foundation for the musical identity VÉHÉMENCE would go on to build in the years that followed. Blending melodic black metal elements with folk influences, the work is considered an early example of the atmospheric direction that would later define much of the band's output.
For this new version, the band chose not to simply replay the original recordings note for note, but instead to revisit the songs from the ground up. Enhanced production, live drum and bass performances, more powerful guitar tones, and an expanded use of folk instruments have given the album a far more majestic atmosphere. As a result, the work has acquired a distinct identity that both pays tribute to its past and reflects the contemporary vision of VÉHÉMENCE.

One of the most striking changes comes in the form of a comprehensive lyrical overhaul. Rather than abandoning the original themes altogether, the band reshaped them to better fit its own fictional universe. In this renewed narrative, concepts such as magic, chivalric ideals, and the pursuit of personal growth take center stage, while the album’s storytelling aspect achieves a much more cohesive form compared to its original incarnation.
This specially reconstructed work from VÉHÉMENCE will see international release through Antiq on June 10. Rather than merely rerecording a now-classic album, the band aims to offer listeners a different experience by transforming it through an entirely new perspective.
