Wacken 2026: Stage Times and Major Names Revealed

As the countdown to Wacken Open Air 2026 continues, the largely finalized stage schedule has already ignited excitement across the metal world. The massive four-day bill—featuring first-time appearances, exclusive performances, and farewell shows—is once again set to transform the Holy Ground into the global epicenter of metal.
Festival organizers Thomas Jensen and Holger Hübner emphasize that the 35th anniversary marks an emotional milestone for them, highlighting metal’s ability to forge bonds that transcend borders. This year’s program stands out as both a tribute to the past and a bold step into a new era.
Big names, firsts, and special sets
One of the most anticipated moments of the announced lineup will be the debut appearance of British hard rock giants Def Leppard on the Wacken stage. Following their Las Vegas residency, the band will finally step onto the Holy Ground, adding a new chapter to the festival’s history.
On Wednesday, the Faster Stage will open under the “Gagamania” concept. Hämatom will conclude the biggest tour of their career at Wacken, while members of Electric Callboy will take the stage with their side project Electric Bassboy. They will be joined by The Butcher Sisters and Japan’s Lovebites.
On the Louder Stage, The Gathering will deliver their only German show of 2026, performing alongside former vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen in celebration of the landmark album “Mandylion.”
One of the strongest signals of a new era comes from Arch Enemy. Making their first Wacken appearance with new vocalist Lauren Hart, the band is set to open a fresh chapter in their career on the Holy Ground.

Heavyweights and farewell moments
The rest of the lineup features standout names such as Savatage, In Flames, and Judas Priest. As the weekend approaches, festival staples like Sabaton and Powerwolf will also take the stage.
At the same time, the 2026 edition will carry deeply emotional farewell moments. Brazilian extreme metal legends Sepultura are preparing for their final performance in Germany, while pirate metal icons Running Wild will bring their career to a close with a final show at Wacken.
The Metal Battle competition, representing the festival’s global spirit, will once again take place on Wednesday and Thursday, featuring final rounds with more than 30 bands from six continents.
The Holy Ground at the center once again
With its vast spectrum ranging from classic heavy metal to modern extreme sounds, Wacken 2026 is once again poised to capture the pulse of the global metal scene. Organizers note that details regarding tickets and camping packages are available through official channels, as the countdown continues to accelerate.
The Holy Ground is preparing to welcome thousands of metalheads once again—rain or shine.
