Swedish heavy metal outfit Watcher is gearing up for the release of its second full-length album, Mistress of Our Time. The record is set to arrive on September 25 via Dying Victims Productions on vinyl and CD. In anticipation of its release, the band has also unveiled the album's latest single, "2084."

Founded in 2023 as a one-man project by vocalist Viktor Gustafsson, Watcher quickly emerged as one of the promising young acts carrying the torch for Sweden's classic heavy metal tradition. Gustafsson's self-produced debut album, Key to the Unbreachable, followed by the Glory or Agony EP, laid the foundation for the band's early sound.

As the lineup expanded, so did Watcher's musical identity. Guitarist Max Warnby and drummer Jakob Nilsson joined the fold in late 2024, while the Chains of Crystal EP, released in 2025, marked the band's first step toward richer and more elaborate songwriting. Later that year, after appearing at Muskelrock, the group welcomed second guitarist Timmy Lindgren and began work on its new full-length.

With Mistress of Our Time, Watcher builds on the traditional Swedish heavy metal approach established on its early recordings, pairing it with a broader production and the stronger chemistry of a full band. Across the album, the quartet channels the spirit of early-1980s heavy metal through melodic guitar harmonies, epic atmospheres, and high-energy songwriting, staying true to the genre's roots while further refining its own identity.

The band's musical approach reflects the influence of Swedish heavy metal pioneers such as Heavy Load, Gotham City, Axewitch, Torch, and early Europe, alongside cult European acts including Ostrogoth, Grim Reaper, and Sortilège. Rather than simply replicating those influences, however, Watcher aims to forge a more mature identity on its new album by blending classic heavy metal aesthetics with fantasy-driven themes and a modern perspective.
