WATCHER Returns to the Spirit of Old Heavy Metal with New “Sorceress” Video
Old Spirit Awakens
Swedish heavy metal band WATCHER have released a new music video for ‘Sorceress’, the third song unveiled from their second studio album, “Mistress of Our Time”. The track’s video premiered via the New Wave of Old School Traditional Metal (NWOTHM) YouTube channel.
Formed in 2023 by Viktor Gustafsson initially as a one-man project, WATCHER soon expanded into a full lineup. Following the release of the debut album “Key to the Unbreachable” and the EP “Glory or Agony”, on which Gustafsson handled all instruments and vocals, Max Warnby and Jakob Nilsson joined the band. With this lineup, WATCHER released the “Chains of Crystal” EP in 2025 and also performed at the Muskelrock festival around the same period. With the addition of second guitarist Timmy Lindgren, the foundations for the band’s new era were laid, followed by the recording of their second full-length.
The new album, “Mistress of Our Time”, takes the 1980s Swedish heavy metal influences that were already prominent in WATCHER’s early recordings further with the possibilities afforded by a larger lineup. Alongside Swedish bands such as Heavy Load, Gotham City, Axewitch, and Torch, the album’s musical framework draws on names such as EUROPE from their Hot Records era, as well as Ostrogoth, Grim Reaper, and Sortilège.
One of the most notable aspects of the band’s new material is that these influences are not approached simply as an exercise in looking backward and imitation. Rather than joining the speed race ushered in by thrash metal, WATCHER puts the emphasis on energy and melodic hooks while focusing on the more grandiose and adventurous side of early heavy metal. “Mistress of Our Time” will present this approach through a fuller lineup and a more expansive sound compared to the band’s previous recordings.
Alongside ‘Sorceress’, the band have previously unveiled ‘Chalice of Light’ and ‘2084’ from the album. The premiere of ‘Chalice of Light’ took place via Metal.de, while ‘2084’ premiered through Deaf Forever.
WATCHER’s second album, “Mistress of Our Time”, will be released internationally via Dying Victims Productions on September 25, 2026. The album contains 10 tracks:
