American death metal band WHARFLURCH is expanding the conceptual storyline of its second album, "Mycodeath and Rebirth in the Outer Clusters", with the new track 'Headless God'. Released as the album's second preview, the track premiered today via NoCleanSinging.

At the end of 2021's "Psychedelic Realms ov Hell", the protagonist became lost in an illusion created by mushrooms. The new album picks up the story as he ventures toward the farthest reaches of the universe. "Mycodeath and Rebirth in the Outer Clusters" reveals the true plan of the fungal entities known as the Mycolords behind the experiments conducted on Earth, while also questioning the protagonist's place within this cosmic order.

The world created by WHARFLURCH extends beyond the lyrics. Developed by John Mamo and Myk Colby, the concept revolves around fungal entities that infect planets with their spores, guiding the development of sentient life according to their own purposes while secretly controlling the life force of galaxies. In doing so, the album expands the psychedelic narrative of its predecessor into a broader science-fiction universe.

Different characters also enter the story through the vocals. Alongside Mamo and Myk sharing vocal duties, MAUL vocalist Garrett Alvarado appears as the voice of the "Sporelords", while Jamie Stewart, known for his work with THE ABSENCE, PARTY TIME, and HOT GRAVES, contributes narration and guest vocals across several tracks. Having different voices represent different characters adds a theatrical dimension to the album's narrative.

Musically, WHARFLURCH keeps death metal and doom at its core, combining heavy, lurching riffs with more intricate and atmospheric passages. The band's use of synths adds another layer to the sound, reinforcing the album's cosmic theme. While influences from bands such as TIMEGHOUL and DEMILICH are cited as reference points, WHARFLURCH treats them as starting points for its own approach rather than attempting to replicate them directly.

The album's visual world was also created by Claw//Eight to support the continuation of the story. The artist, who has previously worked on several of WHARFLURCH's visual releases, has also toured with the band and is referred to by the group as its “Visionary.”
