XTINGUISH THE CODE Puts Its Political Side Front and Center in New Video
Faith, dissent and the machinery of mass manipulation
New York hardcore band XTINGUISH THE CODE have released a video for ‘Declaration/Doomsday Cult’, taken from their second album, “The Conflict”. The two-part track stands out as the band’s most political work to date, while the video was filmed on a dedicated soundstage in Brooklyn equipped with LED video walls.
The Bronx-based band’s vocalist BJ Allen explains that the ‘Declaration’ section deals with an individual beginning to question the narratives imposed upon them, while ‘Doomsday Cult’ examines how faith can be used to manipulate the masses. In Allen’s words, the track’s two-part structure creates a framework that extends from individual questioning to mass manipulation.
Directed by Derek Soto, the video was filmed at Fuse-BK’s large virtual soundstage in Brooklyn, featuring extensive LED video walls. The technology allowed the band’s performance to be placed within disturbing imagery tied to the song’s political and confrontational content. Allen says they wanted to address certain behaviors justified in the name of “moral superiority” through harsh imagery.
‘Declaration/Doomsday Cult’ appears on XTINGUISH THE CODE’s second full-length, “The Conflict”. Released through Grey Matter Records, the album is not only the band’s first recording with new drummer Nate Boogie and vocalist BJ Allen, but also their first conceptual album.
The album’s narrative revolves around themes of working-class solidarity and global awakening. Throughout the songs, an ordinary citizen’s transformation through radicalization into a politically conscious individual is explored. As a result, the issues of individual questioning and mass manipulation brought to the forefront in ‘Declaration/Doomsday Cult’ become part of the broader narrative of “The Conflict”.
Joe Kusak handled the recording, mixing, and mastering at Amplitude Recording. Former vocalist Kevin Lugo also contributes guest vocals to ‘Safe Space’.
XTINGUISH THE CODE formed in 2019. The current lineup consists of Dusty Onita (bass), Nate Boogie (drums), The Professor G Flava (guitar), and BJ Allen (vocals). The band’s NYHC roots are combined with elements of metal, hip-hop, and beatdown-oriented hardcore. Following the band’s 2021 album “Step To My World” and 2023 EP “Matter Of Fact”, “The Conflict” marks their second album released through Grey Matter Records.
The album also includes a previously released lyric video for ‘Despair’, while ‘Falling Down’ has received a music video. “The Conflict” was released on LP, CD, and digital formats. The band are continuing their album campaign with shows across the New York metropolitan area and surrounding region, while also working on new material planned for release in 2027.
XTINGUISH THE CODE’s currently announced upcoming shows include Mother Pugs in Staten Island on October 24, Beast Fest NY at TV Eye in Queens on November 15, and Beast Fest PA at Murder Shack in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, on November 21.
