YAROTZ Visualize the Chaos of Consumer Society with “Hysteric Souls”
Consumerism Turns Violent
French chaotic hardcore/post-metal trio YAROTZ have released their new single ‘Hysteric Souls’ and its accompanying music video ahead of their second album, “RESURGENCE”, due out on September 25. With the track, the band places the uncontrolled violence and chaos driven by consumer culture at the center of its work.
‘Hysteric Souls’ opens with a high-speed assault rooted firmly in chaotic hardcore, while its choruses reveal the more atmospheric and immersive direction YAROTZ are taking on their new album. The combined screams of Fabien Zwernemann on vocals/guitar and Vincent Perdicaro on bass/vocals heighten the tension, while a dark guitar melody leaves a lasting mark within the song’s aggressive framework.
At the heart of the song lies a critique of consumer society. According to Fabien Zwernemann, ‘Hysteric Souls’ tells the story of humanity being driven toward disaster by a consumer culture built around the constant desire for “more”. The collective hysteria at the core of the track ultimately connects to uncontrollable violence and the idea of humanity losing its soul in the process.
This approach finds its visual counterpart in a symbolic video created behind the camera by Fabien Zwernemann, rather than a conventional clip featuring the members of YAROTZ performing onstage. Rapid cuts represent the frenzy of consumption and the pursuit of pleasure, while beach vacations are used as a symbol of a luxurious lifestyle associated with capitalism.
The taxidermied animals featured in the video, meanwhile, point to the damage humanity is inflicting on the planet. Their gazes directed toward the camera carry an accusatory weight, while the scene in which they surround a real human skull underscores the idea that humanity cannot escape the destruction it has created itself. The video’s final symbol completes its critique of anthropocentrism through the Catholic doctrine concerning human supremacy.
‘Hysteric Souls’ follows the previously released ‘Strengths and Fears’ and ‘Four Dead Ends’ as the third track unveiled from “RESURGENCE”. The two earlier tracks have accumulated more than 20,000 views combined, while the new single was produced by Clément Decrock, with recording and production carried out at Studio Boss Hog.
“RESURGENCE”, which YAROTZ will release independently, will arrive on Friday, September 25, 2026. ‘Hysteric Souls’ is currently available on digital platforms and the band’s Bandcamp page.
