Canadian doom metal outfit Yeti On Horseback have unveiled a long-form video piece for “Drug Addict,” the opening track of their upcoming album Traditional Addictions, ahead of the record’s release. Premiered via Decibel Magazine, the work is not merely a music video; it stands out as a bleak mini-film running alongside the nearly 14-minute track, stretching beyond the 20-minute mark in total. The album is set to arrive on July 24.

The band’s new visual work is built on a disturbing, heavy atmosphere centered around the theme of drug addiction. Directed by David Hall, the film expands the track’s dense doom character through a visual narrative, addressing the cycle of addiction along both individual and psychological lines of collapse. The video draws the viewer directly into its story through an extended prelude of staged sequences and sound collages that begin before the music itself.

Yeti On Horseback operate with a sound that further intensifies the traditional doom aesthetic. Riff structures shaped in the lineage of Sleep, Electric Wizard, YOB, and Melvins are combined with suffocating vocals and layered soundscapes, reinforcing the band’s signature heaviness. Hailing from London, Ontario, the group were already hailed as “doom’s hope for the future” with their 2016 debut The Great Dying.

Their new album Traditional Addictions was completed under the production of Greg Dawson, following a four-year recording process. The band state that the record’s core focuses on the historical and personal layers of the trauma-and-addiction cycle. The long-term collaboration with the production team has resulted in a sound that has evolved into a denser, more layered, and more controlled form.

The band members describe the record as the most mature step in their career, emphasizing the decisive role of experience and guidance throughout the creative process. The album also arrives with a carefully curated visual package; Jes Dunn’s “field journal” aesthetic design, combined with a 180-gram 45 RPM vinyl pressing, delivers a release aimed squarely at collectors.

Traditional Addictions features, alongside “Drug Addict,” the tracks “Mariner’s Lament,” “Through With This Flesh,” and “Erotic Goth Dad.” The band will also present their new material live on August 20, 2026, in London, Ontario.

With this release, Yeti On Horseback construct a narrative that pushes the boundaries of heavy metal not only musically, but also visually and thematically, aiming to leave a lasting mark across all dimensions.
