BOMBSTRAP - Big Enemy

For 21:45 minutes, Bombstrap deliver a live, energetic display of violence utterly devoted to punk culture. Born in Rotterdam’s anarchist Poortgebouw commune in 2025, it is impossible not to feel the spirit of the environment they emerged from in the band’s music. Every track latches onto punk’s anarchic vein, and the band is not remotely afraid to veer into crust territory from time to time. Quite the opposite: these shifts push the album’s anarchic dose a little higher.

Our vocal sister does not hold back from shredding her throat to unleash her anger. As the screams grow more intense, the guitar cranks up the distortion, while our drummer brother drives his sticks into the drums as if nailing them in place. The energy exchange between these three forms the real strength of Big Enemy. The bass guitar, meanwhile, takes on a role of its own within this chaos. Filling out the tracks with its punchy tone and characteristic punk runs, it adds a slight “neck-breaking” feel to the whole attack. When the guitar’s distortion, the drums’ slap-in-the-face hits, the vocals’ screams and the bass runs come together, the result is crystal clear. ANARCHYYYYY :)

It is no coincidence that a band emerging from a DIY-spirited venue like Rotterdam’s WORM, where they played their second-ever show, should possess such uncontrolled energy. So don’t even think for a second that the band will spit out its energy and step aside while the audience remains indifferent to all of it.

Indeed, a look at the band’s live videos makes it possible to see how this music translates to the stage. The whole place is an absolute fucking mess. The distance between the audience and the band has all but disappeared; what you have is less a regular concert than a punk ritual that lost control a long time ago.
