Chip McCabe Steps Into Fiction With Debut Horror Novel
Longtime extreme metal and horror journalist Chip McCabe has officially entered the world of fiction. The writer’s first horror novel, Kindred, released under the alias Creed Woodhouse, is now available.
McCabe has been a familiar name within metal and horror culture for years. In addition to contributing to several American publications focused on heavy music, he also produces horror-related content and hosts podcast projects centered around the genre. Following two non-fiction books, Kindred marks his first full-length fictional horror release.
Set during the summer of 1987, the story follows high school student Eric Smith, whose recurring nightmares slowly begin bleeding into reality. Centered around visions of a strange hallway and a door with a golden knob, the nightmares grow darker after a brutal murder shocks the rural New Jersey community where Eric lives. As the novel progresses, hidden secrets surrounding Eric’s friends and family begin to surface, while his grip on reality steadily unravels.
Blending psychological tension with supernatural horror elements, Kindred appears aimed at readers who appreciate classic American horror storytelling. Early reactions have highlighted the novel’s atmosphere-driven approach and its strong focus on character development.
The book is currently available through several retailers, including Barnes & Noble.
A special signing event for the novel has also been announced. The event will take place on May 30 at Folklore & Fable in Connecticut between 1 PM and 3 PM.
Fans will also have the opportunity to win copies of Kindred during horror movie trivia contests held as part of the annual outdoor horror film series Spooky Popcorn, organized by McCabe in Hartford.
