Dimmu Borgir Return with First New Album in Eight Years
Norwegian symphonic black metal pioneers Dimmu Borgir are gearing up to strike back with their first new material since 2018’s Eonian.
On March 26, the band and Nuclear Blast released the official video for Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel, ramping up anticipation for the upcoming album.
Production was handled by Fredrik Nordström (At the Gates, Arch Enemy), who confirmed in September 2025 that recording, mixing, and mastering were complete. Nordström described the process as both rewarding and challenging, assuring fans that the result would live up to the band’s legendary standards.
Guitarist Silenoz opened up on the Iblis Manifestations podcast about the album’s completion. While many assumed an eight-year gap would follow Eonian, the pandemic years actually allowed the band a more focused and meticulous creative period. “Great songs take time. Sometimes they come quickly, but there’s no formula. You just have to give it the time it deserves,” Silenoz explained.
He also highlighted the freedom granted by long-term partners Nuclear Blast, who never pressured the band to rush production: “They didn’t push us to deliver immediately. They let us dedicate the necessary time to the music, so in the end, it’s a product they can support and fans can appreciate.”
Looking ahead, Silenoz teased an active year for Dimmu Borgir, including a major European headline tour. A U.S. run is more complicated due to costs, but plans for a significant American tour—something the band hasn’t done in years—are on the horizon. He reminded fans to keep in mind the challenges behind such ambitious undertakings.
