DUMAL Announce New Album “The Trials of Existence”
DUMAL redraw the boundaries of darkness
Pennsylvania black metal trio DUMAL will release their third studio album, “The Trials of Existence,” on October 2 via Alte Seelen on CD. The album will be the band’s first full-length since 2020’s “The Confessor.”
Active in the USBM scene since 2013, DUMAL take their name from Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil). Across their EPs, splits, and two full-lengths to date, the band have developed a sound that combines the ferocity of '90s Scandinavian black metal with Eastern European melody and the physical weight of American black metal.
On the new album, this approach is brought into a more cohesive form, while the keyboards used on the band’s previous releases have been left behind entirely. Instead, DUMAL place raw yet melodic guitar arrangements at the center of their sound, creating a denser atmosphere. The new material maintains the balance between Scandinavian aggression and Eastern European melodicism while building a more memorable structure that remains rooted in underground black metal.
The tracks ‘Ivyland’ and ‘Rendered Impotent by Glass’ from “The Trials of Existence” are available to stream via Alte Seelen’s Bandcamp page, where the album is also available for preorder. Further preorder information can be found here.
