Copenhagen-based heavy rock band EMPATH has announced the release of its self-titled debut album, due out through Indisciplinarian on November 13. The album’s first single, ‘Lyca’s Lost’, is also now available on digital platforms.

‘Lyca’s Lost’ reflects the album’s psychedelic heavy rock approach, while its lyrics focus on alienation between generations through the idea of parallel worlds and different dimensions.

At the core of EMPATH are vocalist Morten Grønnegaard (Qaisor) and guitarist Jacob Krogholt (Anti Ritual), who previously played together in Rising. The lineup for the debut album was completed by bassist KB Larsen, known for his work with Volbeat and Anti Ritual, and drummer Jeppe Munk Aakeson of Knytnæve and Iota.

Running for 38 minutes and comprising eight tracks, "Empath" draws on the legacy of 1970s and 1980s heavy, progressive, and psychedelic rock/metal through a contemporary production approach. Synths add another dimension to the album’s sound, recalling the scores of old science-fiction films. According to the band, the album’s musical narrative creates a cohesive structure across songs with distinct characters.

This approach is also reflected in the album’s lyrical themes. EMPATH explores human nature, the consequences of ambition and dreams, climate change, inequality, isolation, and conflict. Morten Grønnegaard’s lyrics draw on influences from 20th-century science-fiction literature and experimental poetry from the Romantic era, while the ideas of Arthur C. Clarke, William Blake, and Thomas De Quincey are also among the album’s sources of inspiration.

"Empath" was produced by KB Larsen and EMPATH, with mastering handled by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The album artwork was created by Morten Grønnegaard.

The album will be released in two vinyl editions—100 copies on transparent blue vinyl and 100 on black vinyl—as well as in digital formats. Preorder and presave options are available.
