Norwegian folk rock band GÅTE have released “Strandvaskar,” the third single taken from their upcoming album "Sigil", which will arrive on September 25, 2026 via Season of Mist.

The new track draws inspiration from a belief rooted in Norwegian coastal folklore. The song’s narrative is built around the old superstition that a body washed ashore must receive a proper burial; otherwise, the sea will return to reclaim what it has lost. GÅTE approach this tale as a silent encounter between the living and the dead, combining traces of traditional Norwegian music with modern rock arrangements to shape the song’s atmosphere.

The musical identity of “Strandvaskar” is especially defined by the presence of the Hardanger fiddle, with the band blending this traditional instrument into their electric folk rock approach. As with the rest of the album, the track continues GÅTE’s ongoing exploration of reinterpreting ancient narratives through a contemporary musical lens.

"Sigil" will mark GÅTE’s first album release with Season of Mist. Recorded at MagnuStudio and Øra Studio, the album was produced by Kristian Fanavoll Tvedt and Magnus Børmark, while the mixing and mastering of “Strandvaskar” were handled by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios.

The album continues GÅTE’s musical approach of merging centuries-old folk tales, legends, and traditional vocal forms with a contemporary rock foundation. Rather than treating the past as something preserved and untouchable, the band approaches tradition as a living source that continues to carry meaning in the present.

Emerging in Norway in the early 2000s, GÅTE gained attention for their distinctive fusion of Nordic folk elements and modern rock. Their 2002 debut album "Jygri" reached the top of the Norwegian album charts and earned the band the Best Newcomer award at the Spellemann Award.

With two studio albums, three EPs, and one live album in their catalogue, the band returned after an extended hiatus with 2017’s "Svevn", followed by the folk-oriented "Nord" in 2021. GÅTE also represented Norway at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with “Ulveham”, a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Norwegian ballad.

GÅTE will bring the new songs from "Sigil" to the stage during their autumn 2026 tour. Alongside nine concerts across Norway, the band will also perform at IF Performance Hall in Istanbul, Turkey on November 21, 2026.
