GOLGOTHAN REMAINS Announce New Album After Nearly Five Years
GOLGOTHAN REMAINS Return With Greater Speed
Australian death metal quartet GOLGOTHAN REMAINS will end a nearly five-year gap between full-length albums on November 20 with “Born From Darkness Absolute”. Set for release through Dark Descent Records, the band’s third full-length puts the focus on a more direct approach geared towards live performance. The first track from the album, ‘An Emanation of Exorcism’, is now available to stream.
The new release from the Sydney-based band marks their first major release since the 2024 MLP “Bearer of Light, Matriarch of Death”. Rather than pushing the boundaries of the genre through experimentation, GOLGOTHAN REMAINS are returning to the core elements of their established sound. The new material takes a faster, more direct approach while retaining the band’s atmospheric edge.
The quartet’s experience on stage has played a key role in shaping this direction. Having performed alongside bands including DEAD CONGREGATION and CONCRETE WINDS on the same tour, GOLGOTHAN REMAINS sought to capture the energy of their live shows in the studio, with live performance in mind throughout the songwriting process. The band describes the new songs as some of the fastest material of their career, with the album maintaining its pace from start to finish.
The lyrics on “Born From Darkness Absolute” return to death metal’s long-established themes. Religious hypocrisy, anti-society sentiments, conflict, blasphemy and occultism are among the central subjects shaping the album’s lyrical world. These themes are also reflected in the artwork. Created by Misanthropic Art, the cover combines Slavic folklore with Orthodox religious imagery, using a colour palette that sets it apart from conventional death metal artwork.
On the production front, Greg Chandler returns after working with the band on their previous MLP. Best known for his work with Esoteric, the musician handled the mixing of the new album at Priory Recording Studios.
“Born From Darkness Absolute” will be released on November 20 via Dark Descent Records in digital, CD and vinyl formats. Pre-order options are available, with European orders also handled through DDMSUO.
