Maneating Orchid Opens the Door to Cosmic Nightmares with New Album
Maneating Orchid
Indian progressive metal and mathcore outfit Maneating Orchid are preparing to return with their third studio album, Cold Logic. Set for release on June 5, 2026, the record will be made available worldwide through Subcontinental Records.
Drawing listeners into an intensely tense and unpredictable atmosphere throughout its approximately 34-minute runtime, Cold Logic pushes the band's intricate musical identity even further. Abrupt transitions, unconventional song structures, and deliberately unsettling harmonic arrangements form the album's core character. Razor-sharp riffs, relentless blast beat assaults, and irregular rhythmic patterns converge into a wall of sound that feels as though it could collapse at any moment.
The contribution of recently recruited drummer Vishnu Reddy also stands out as one of the album's defining elements. Reddy's energetic and aggressive performance drives Maneating Orchid's already chaotic framework into even wilder territory, injecting the compositions with an added sense of dynamism. As a result, dissonant death metal, punk-fuelled aggression, and technical progressive sensibilities intertwine throughout the record.
From a lyrical perspective, the band moves away from social and political themes this time around, embracing a darker and more existential direction. Cold Logic is built around concepts that explore feelings of isolation in the face of the cosmos, the fear born from the unknown, and questions surrounding the limits of human consciousness. Themes such as the dissolution of identity, the fragmentation of perceived reality, and post-human transformation shape the album's overarching atmosphere.
Formed in 2011, Maneating Orchid have established themselves as one of the more distinctive acts within the extreme metal landscape. Operating under the name Orchid during their early years, the band first drew attention through their unconventional fusion of progressive metal and mathcore. After making a strong impact on the underground scene with their 2016 EP, the group further cemented their reputation with Miasma in 2019 and Hive Mind in 2022.
With their new album, Maneating Orchid continue to push the boundaries of extreme music, inviting listeners on a journey that is darker, more chaotic, and more cosmic than ever before.
