NEQUIENT Delivers a Dystopian Strike: “Obsolete Machines” Video Now Released
Chicago-based grindcore outfit NEQUIENT is back in the spotlight with their new video for “Obsolete Machines.” At the same time, the band has made their third full-length album, Avarice, available via Nefarious Industries and is preparing to return to the stage with an aggressive touring schedule.
With the new video, NEQUIENT once again lays bare their harsh and unsettling atmosphere, focused on the dark underbelly of the modern world. Channeling their anger toward the destruction caused by technological transformation, mechanisms of social manipulation, and systems of control into an increasingly intense sonic aesthetic, the band pushes their over-a-decade-long musical evolution to a sharper edge with Avarice. The album takes shape as a form that fuses the chaotic nature of grindcore and hardcore with experimental touches, forcing the listener out of their comfort zone.
On the production side, the record bears the signature of Sanford Parker, while mastering duties were handled by Collin Jordan. The album’s visual world is supported by the work of Arifullah Ali, with design contributions from Scott Shellhamer drawing further attention. In addition, synth contributions from Kevin Kalay and Circa Tapes further intensify the album’s dark and dystopian atmosphere.

NEQUIENT, following their recent run of Midwest shows, is ramping up its touring activity. The band will kick off a short run in Wisconsin in early June before launching a broader East Coast tour stretching through mid-July. The route includes cities such as Cleveland, Brooklyn, Richmond, Asheville, and Pittsburgh, and will conclude with a final show in Chicago.
The “Obsolete Machines” video and Avarice reinforce NEQUIENT’s increasingly hardened stance not only musically but also ideologically, further solidifying the band’s visibility within the extreme metal scene.
