OBSIDIAN CHURCH’s “STONEBOUND” to Receive Its First Physical Release
Physical revival begins
Italy’s Palermo- and Messina-based epic doom metal band OBSIDIAN CHURCH is preparing a physical edition of its debut album, “Stonebound,” which was released digitally earlier this year. Dying Victims Productions will issue the album on CD and vinyl LP on November 20. A new track from the album, ‘Fallen,’ premiered today via Deaf Forever.
Formed in early 2024, the five-piece OBSIDIAN CHURCH chose to record their debut album directly rather than release a demo first. While “Stonebound” reached listeners digitally ahead of its physical release, it established the band’s approach, rooted in traditional heavy metal and classic epic doom metal.
The album draws on the influence of bands such as early CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETURNUS, SOLSTICE, TIAMAT, PARADISE LOST, PENTAGRAM, THERION, TRISTANIA, and BLACK SABBATH. Rather than directly imitating these references, however, OBSIDIAN CHURCH have built their sound around developing an identity of their own.
The album’s rhythmic foundation comes from drummer and producer Antonio La Camera, complemented by Vicar Nocturnus on vocals, Jos Curtis on bass, and Sara Scavo and Giada Seidita on guitars. The band’s arrangements emphasize the way each instrument supports the others, combining the weight of classic doom metal with the five-piece’s own approach.
“Stonebound” also uses its production to reinforce the themes OBSIDIAN CHURCH explore. The album’s sound is shaped around themes of existentialism, loss, esoteric spirituality, and finding beauty within the world. Rather than treating traditional epic doom metal solely as a genre reference, OBSIDIAN CHURCH seek to make the album’s atmosphere correspond with these themes as well.
Released today, ‘Fallen’ is the first of “Stonebound”’s six tracks to reach listeners ahead of the album’s physical edition. The track premiered via Germany-based Deaf Forever.
“Stonebound” will be released on CD and vinyl LP through Dying Victims Productions on November 20, 2026. The album comprises six tracks: ‘Fallen’, ‘The Great Circle of Summoning’, ‘Specter of Despair’, ‘Soul Enchantment’, ‘Witching Hour’, and ‘De Occvlta Philosophia’.
