New Jersey death metal band OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS have shared a lyric video for ‘Ash Hoarder’ ahead of the release of their new EP, “Nexus,” due out October 30 via Bleeding Art Collective. The track stands out as one of the clearest examples of the band’s approach to bringing different musical styles together on their new release.

According to the band, ‘Ash Hoarder’ explores the duality of fire: its ability to provide warmth as well as cause irreversible destruction. The song’s riffing particularly reflects Josh’s musical approach, while the band says the track was built around the idea of creating something the crowd could move along to.

For “Nexus,” OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS set out to reflect the different musical styles of its members. The band explains that each member was tasked with writing a song in their own style before merging those ideas with material they had already developed. While the EP retains thematic connections to the band’s 2022 debut album, “Unrecognizable,” the band also experimented with different styles instrumentally on the new release.

“Nexus” takes its name from the concept of a connection or a central point linking multiple elements. The band says the EP brings each member’s artistic character to the forefront while serving as a testing ground for what they are capable of creating.

The foundations of OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS’ new era were laid with the singles ‘Nexus’ and ‘Doomed,’ released in 2025. The video for ‘Doomed’ has since reached 129,000 views on Slam Worldwide. The band’s previously released video for ‘Doomed’ can also be viewed here.

Hailing from the New Jersey death metal scene, OCEAN OF ILLUSIONS combine influences from European melodic death metal, djentcore, and New York death metal. The band have previously shared the stage with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, INGESTED, THE LAST TEN SECONDS OF LIFE, and BODYSNATCHER.

“Nexus” was mixed and mastered by Dave Ricco of Face Yourself. The EP will be released digitally on October 30, with pre-save links expected to become available in the coming weeks.
