SAOR to Release "Caledonia", Featuring Five Re-Recorded Tracks from Their First Three Albums
SAOR Revisit Their Musical Beginnings
Scottish atmospheric black metal project SAOR will release "Caledonia" through Season of Mist on Friday, November 6, 2026. The album features five re-recorded tracks drawn from the band's first three albums, "Roots", "Aura" and "Guardians". Spanning more than 51 minutes, the record revisits SAOR's early compositions through the lens of Andy Marshall's musical evolution over the years. The full album has already been made available to stream on YouTube ahead of its release.

Andy Marshall has revisited songs that have evolved through years of rehearsals, live performances and touring, recording them with more developed arrangements and performances. The aim is to preserve the character of the original compositions while bringing to completion musical ideas that could not be fully realised on the early albums.
This approach is also reflected in the renewed focus on the elements that define SAOR's musical identity. Tremolo-driven black metal is combined with traditional instruments such as tin whistle, uilleann pipes and violin. The atmospheric depth and breadth Marshall had envisioned from the beginning now take a more prominent role in the arrangements of these new recordings.
Andy Marshall handles most of the album's musical duties. Alongside composing the material, he performs vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, bass and pads. He is joined by Carlos Vivas on drums, Ella Zlotos on female vocals, tin whistle, low whistle and uilleann pipes, and Àngela Moya Serrat on violin.
Marshall describes the album's starting point not as an exercise in nostalgia, but as a way of completing compositions he has been working on for years:
“Having previously revisited older material through remasters and remixes, this was the first time I could fully reimagine these songs with the benefit of years of experience, stronger performances, and a clearer artistic vision. It felt less like looking backwards and more like completing a circle. The songs carry the same emotions and inspiration, but they now reflect the SAOR that exists today.”
Running for 51 minutes and 28 seconds, "Caledonia" comprises five tracks. Physical editions include a CD digipak and double-LP gatefold versions available in black, black and white marbled, and opaque orange and black marbled variants.
