“Exordium,” the 2022 digital debut full-length from Canadian black metal band SCALDING, has been reissued by Hypaethral Records in limited-edition CD and vinyl formats. Alongside the album, which captures the band’s early development following its formation in Vancouver in 2021, the new edition also includes the “Skull Collapse” EP.

Rooted in the second-wave Scandinavian black metal tradition, SCALDING also draws on death metal, crust, and traditional heavy metal. On their debut, aggressive passages meet atmospheric sections and melodic shifts, broadening the band’s approach beyond the traditional boundaries of black metal through influences from other genres.

Guitarist and vocalist SM says the reissue reflects the band’s formative years. Recalling how the songs began taking shape during the 2020 lockdowns and how SCALDING played its first shows in 2022, the musician expresses his enthusiasm for seeing “Exordium” released on vinyl for the first time, with tracks from the “Skull Collapse” EP included in the package. SM considers the edition a comprehensive snapshot of SCALDING’s first chapter.

The Vancouver-based band has shared the stage with acts including UADA, ROTTING CHRIST, ANTICHRIST SIEGE MACHINE, ABBATH, and PIG DESTROYER.

The new edition of “Exordium” is available in two physical formats. The CD version comes in a four-panel digipak and is limited to 200 copies, while the ECO series Graphite Vinyl pressing is also limited to 200 copies.

The digital edition of the album is available here, while physical copies can be ordered through the Hypaethral Records official store.
