Somnia Finem’s Hypnotic Black Metal Manifesto: Desassossego Out Now
The new Portuguese outfit Somnia Finem make an assertive entrance into the dark metal underground with their debut album Desassossego. Set for release on May 29th in CD format via Signal Rex, the record has already been made fully available ahead of its official drop through the No Gleaming Light YouTube channel. This roughly 36-minute first statement finds the band fusing both traditional and unconventional approaches within their black metal framework.
Somnia Finem consciously distance themselves from the raw, direct production ethos that has defined much of the Portuguese underground in recent years. Instead, the band construct a more refined framework, one that prioritizes dynamic transitions and compositional depth. In doing so, they align themselves with a distinctly 1990s Southern European black metal lineage—most notably echoing scenes from Italy, France, and Greece.
Drawing its conceptual foundation from Fernando Pessoa’s Livro do Desassossego, the album translates a fractured stream of consciousness and an atmosphere of inner collapse into musical form. Recorded over an extended period between 2022 and 2025, the six-track release consistently aims to evoke a sense of “atmospheric cognitive drift” across its individual movements. While the classic harsh texture of black metal remains intact, the narrative gradually dissolves into a more abstract, almost dreamlike configuration.
Desassossego stands out as a first step that circles the boundaries of the genre without fully breaking them. The work both nods to traditional black metal listeners and targets those in search of a more experimental sonic experience, positioning Somnia Finem as a new name worth tracking in the current landscape.
The album is available in full via No Gleaming Light ahead of its official release.

The tracklist is as follows:
Sinfonia de Mim
Prisão da Razão
Desassossego
Sonho Lúcido
