Thomas Miller Returns: LAZARUS EFFECT Announced
Debut Solo Album Due in 2026
Former Symphony X bassist Thomas Miller is preparing to step back into the spotlight with LAZARUS EFFECT, the first solo project he has been developing for many years. The veteran musician has announced that he has signed with progressive metal-focused label Sensory Records for the new venture. The project's debut album is scheduled for release in the fall of 2026.
Miller has been working on LAZARUS EFFECT for a long time, bringing together ideas and compositions accumulated throughout different stages of his career under a single banner. Describing the partnership with Sensory Records as a significant step in the album’s release process, the musician stated that he aims both to reconnect with longtime listeners and to reach new audiences.
Sensory Records founder Ken Golden also highlighted Thomas Miller’s contributions during his years with Symphony X while discussing the project. Golden believes Miller’s new work will offer compelling surprises, particularly for progressive metal fans who hold the classic era of Symphony X in high regard.
Thomas Miller’s musical roots stretch back to the local progressive rock and metal scene in New Jersey. Crossing paths with guitarist Michael Romeo early in his career, the musician spent years performing and working together in various bands before becoming part of the formation of Symphony X in 1994. Having performed on the band’s early releases, Miller emerged as one of the key members during the period when Symphony X began gaining international recognition.
Following his departure from Symphony X, Miller never stopped creating music, continuing to write and record across a variety of projects. His collaborations with vocalist Hollywood How Portney, in particular, played an important role in shaping the concept behind LAZARUS EFFECT. As the project gradually evolved into a more ambitious album, the musician also brought several former collaborators into the fold.
The forthcoming album will feature performances from Symphony X founder Michael Romeo and keyboardist Michael Pinnella. In addition, producer Eric Rachel, who worked on the band’s first six albums, handled the mixing and mastering duties. The record is said to combine epic themes, progressive metal dynamics, and a range of diverse musical textures.
With the recording process now complete, final preparations for LAZARUS EFFECT’s debut album are currently underway. More details and promotional material from the release are expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
