THOMAS MILLER’S LAZARUS EFFECT Returns Ahead of New Album With Second Single ‘Closer To The Sun’
Former SYMPHONY X bassist Thomas Miller’s new project, THOMAS MILLER’S LAZARUS EFFECT, has released ‘Closer To The Sun’, the second single from its self-titled debut album. Set for release on October 30 via Sensory Records, the track takes a more progressive approach than the project’s first single, ‘When Darkness Falls’.
The track brings together mythological lyrics, Middle Eastern tonalities, and aggressive guitar and bass rhythms, while Miller notes that the use of acoustic guitar and violin adds another layer to its atmosphere. According to the musician, these elements create a narrative structure that builds toward the track’s main rhythmic themes.

The origins of THOMAS MILLER’S LAZARUS EFFECT can be traced back to Miller’s formation of SYMPHONY X with Michael Romeo in 1994. After playing bass on the band’s early albums, Miller left the band for personal reasons following "Symphony X", "Damnation Game", "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy", "Twilight In Olympus", and "A Prelude To The New Millenium".
In the years that followed, Miller continued writing and recording with various projects. After a recording project with vocalist Hollywood How Portney in 2017, the musician began writing for a new project, eventually bringing two former SYMPHONY X members into the fold. Michael Romeo contributed guitar, while Michael Pinnella handled keyboards on the album.
The album’s production also has a direct connection to SYMPHONY X’s history. Eric Rachel, who produced the band’s first six albums, handled the mixing and mastering for THOMAS MILLER’S LAZARUS EFFECT’s debut. The album’s visual design was created by Rodrigo Gudiña.
Described as a 49-minute progressive metal album, "Thomas Miller’s Lazarus Effect" will be released by Sensory Records on CD, LP, and digital formats. The album is due out on October 30, 2026, with pre-orders now available.
