Hailing from Linköping, Sweden, PRIME CREATION continue their path as one of the bands combining the traditions of melodic Heavy Metal and Power Metal with a modern production approach. With a lineup of experienced musicians, their fourth studio album Souls Of The Fallen brings the band’s trademark heavy riffs, powerful vocal melodies, and classic metal influences into a more defined form. The album reflects PRIME CREATION’s effort to strengthen their position within the genre while reshaping traditional Power Metal elements through a contemporary sonic perspective.

With Souls Of The Fallen, PRIME CREATION deliver an album that merges the melodic side of modern Power Metal with the directness of classic Heavy Metal, while never attempting to completely break away from the genre’s established framework. Although opener “Galactic Rebirth” initially opens the door to a more atmospheric direction with its brief synth introduction, the band quickly reveals its true identity: a sound built around heavy rhythm guitars, driving drums, powerful chorus structures, and melodic guitar touches, blending the energy of American Power Metal traditions with the Swedish melodic metal approach.

The foundation of the album lies in PRIME CREATION’s clarity in riff writing. Robin Arnell and Rami Tainamo’s guitars focus less on complex technical displays and more on creating strong rhythmic foundations. “Blood Harvest” stands as one of the clearest examples of this approach; its fast double-bass drumming, sharp guitar patterns, and Esa Englund’s distinctive raspy vocals give the track the classic dynamism of Power Metal. Here, the band embraces a modern production style while allowing the riffs to remain at the center of attention. This choice separates them from the increasingly layered and sterile production styles often found in contemporary Power Metal, creating a more traditional Heavy Metal feel.

At the same time, the album’s search for originality is largely built around rearranging existing genre codes. While progressive touches can be heard throughout the record, they generally appear as small structural shifts that add variety to the arrangements rather than elements that fundamentally reshape the song architecture. The rhythmic changes and more developed transitions in the title track show that the band is open to broader compositions; however, PRIME CREATION consistently prioritize melodic accessibility over technical experimentation.

Esa Englund’s vocals are one of the album’s defining characteristics. Rather than following the clean, high-pitched tradition commonly associated with Power Metal vocals, Englund opts for a rougher, heavier, and more distinctive tone, giving PRIME CREATION’s sound a clear identity. On darker tracks such as “Ghosts,” this vocal approach creates a strong balance with the weight of the guitars. Meanwhile, the choruses that occasionally lean toward classic European Power Metal melodies make the band’s Swedish melodic metal roots more apparent. In this regard, Englund’s vocal tone becomes an essential element that gives personality to melodies that could otherwise risk sounding familiar.

The rhythm section is another one of the album’s supporting pillars. Kim Arnell’s drumming follows traditional Power Metal formulas, especially on the faster tracks; his use of double bass patterns and constant forward momentum enhances the songs’ live potential. Henrik Weimedal’s bass adds additional weight to the low end, creating a modern fullness without disappearing beneath the guitars. However, the mix could have benefited from leaving more room for detail. While the production is clean and powerful, a clearer separation between the guitar layers and rhythm instruments in certain sections could have made the album’s dynamics more effective.

The keyboard use is another interesting but limited component of the album. As heard on “Prime Creation,” keyboards are primarily used to create background atmosphere. This approach aims to add melodic depth without pushing the music toward the symphonic and overly theatrical side of the genre. However, the keyboards never become an element that transforms the foundation of the music; they remain more of a supporting color within the existing Heavy/Power Metal formula. Therefore, while this choice strengthens the album’s atmosphere, it does not create an experimental space that significantly expands PRIME CREATION’s musical identity.

From a songwriting perspective, the album’s strongest quality is the band’s command of creating memorable choruses and classic Heavy Metal melodies. Tracks such as “Legends Never Die” and “Ashes Of Trust” represent the more traditional Power Metal side of the record through their strong vocal melodies and more dramatic arrangements. As the closing track, “Ashes Of Trust” moves into broader melodic territory and demonstrates that the band is not built solely around speed. However, despite several song ideas being effectively executed, the album occasionally struggles to find a strong sense of originality that remains in the listener’s memory over the long term.

This also relates to PRIME CREATION’s position within today’s Power Metal landscape. The band exists within the same broad field as acts such as HammerFall, Stratovarius, and more modern melodic metal representatives; however, their harsher vocal approach and Heavy Metal-driven guitar style prevent them from following exactly the same path. Souls Of The Fallen preserves the genre’s classic elements while developing its own character, but that identity is shaped primarily through strong execution and vocal personality rather than a desire to open new compositional territory.

On the visual side, the artwork created by Giannis Nakos presents a Heavy Metal aesthetic that aligns with the album title’s darker and more epic associations. This visual approach supports the mythological and dramatic aspects of the music; however, it does not move beyond the dark fantasy imagery frequently used within the genre to establish a new visual language. As a result, the visual identity functions as a complement to the album’s atmosphere but does not play as defining a role as the musical approach itself.

Souls Of The Fallen is a well-crafted Power Metal album that showcases PRIME CREATION’s technical ability and their command of melodic Heavy Metal. Rather than asking listeners to focus on experimental directions or ideas that redefine the boundaries of the genre, it builds its world around strong riffs, distinctive vocals, and classic chorus structures. The album combines the traditional side of contemporary Power Metal with modern production values, strengthening PRIME CREATION’s position within the scene as a band that refines its established path without fundamentally reshaping it.
