ZIVANISHED - 100% Αγνός Κυπριακός Βίλλος
Cypriot culture collides with wild extreme metal.
ZIVANISHED’s “100% Αγνός Κυπριακός Βίλλος” EP is less concerned with how far extreme metal can stretch its genre boundaries than with how far it can stretch its cultural ones. Released on May 29, 2026, the release does more than simply present the band’s long-defined “Cypriot Metal” approach as a statement of identity; it brings together thrash, hardcore and punk foundations with Cypriot Greek, Greek and Middle Eastern musical elements, and absurdist humor within the same compositions. What makes this combination worthwhile is that these differences go beyond serving as mere decoration.
The EP’s musical backbone is built around fast, direct riffs. ‘Shieparnomoutsounos’ combines a thrash character with a comedy-horror narrative, before violins and viola enter in the final section and take the track somewhere unexpected. ‘To Palioman tou Villou me ton Poutton’, meanwhile, leans more clearly into hardcore; originating from Infected Syren’s repertoire, the track brings a traditional Cypriot poem into contact with the aggressive rhythmic framework of extreme music. Here, cultural references are not symbols added onto the music after the fact, but an integral part of the songwriting itself.
The EP’s darker side becomes more apparent on ‘Avakoum’. Its thrash-based structure expands into a Middle Eastern-flavored outro, while the instrumental track that follows reinterprets melodic material originating from pop through metalized Middle Eastern melodies and bouzouki. ‘To Ppouli Me To Gazi’, meanwhile, combines hardcore with black metal influences, creating a contrast through Sofia’s ethereal and harsh vocals. Rather than repeating a single formula six times, the EP chooses to test the same cultural core through different musical means.
The boldest choice is ‘O Villos Mou En Mialos’. Groove-driven and rooted in rapcore, the track deliberately breaks away from the band’s other material. At first glance, this deviation could seem capable of disrupting the EP’s cohesion, yet ironically, it becomes one of the release’s most memorable moments. Its thrash-oriented outro reconnects the track with the band’s central axis. This reveals an important aspect of ZIVANISHED’s approach: rather than preserving stylistic consistency, they choose to preserve their own cultural and humorous identity.
The fact that the lyrics are written entirely in Cypriot Greek also gives this musical diversity a common ground. Bringing subjects such as sexuality, local traditions, religious scandals and everyday absurdity together on the same EP prevents the humor from being merely an element used for the sake of being funny. “100% Αγνός Κυπριακός Βίλλος” therefore owes its experimental character not to complexity, but to its ability to make seemingly disparate musical and cultural elements meaningful within the band’s own language. At times deliberately ridiculous, but never random. ZIVANISHED’s true identity takes shape precisely within that tension.
