Countdown Begins for Alcatraz Open Air 2026 19 Reasons to Experience the Festival

Taking place in Kortrijk, Belgium, Alcatraz Open Air 2026 is set to bring the metal world together once again from August 6–9. With more than 120 bands, revamped festival areas and an expanded camping experience, the four-day event is once again shaping up to be one of the key dates on the European metal calendar.

The 2026 line-up features headliners such as Slaughter To Prevail, Powerwolf, Lamb of God and Arch Enemy, alongside a wide range of acts including Savatage, Testament, Primus, Body Count and Alestorm.

One of the standout moments of this year’s festival will come from Belgian metal veterans Channel Zero. The band will say farewell to open-air stages with their performance at the Prison Stage on Thursday, August 6. Founded in Brussels in the late 1980s by Franky De Smet-Van Damme and his bandmates, Channel Zero will close this chapter of their live career after 36 years with this special performance.

One of the biggest changes at the festival site will be the renovation of the main stage, Prison Stage. The stage design has been updated, with larger screens added to ensure that fans can follow the action from every part of the festival grounds. Additional shade areas and cooling systems have also been introduced to provide more comfort during hot weather conditions.

At Alcatraz Open Air 2026, experiences beyond the music will once again be an important part of the festival programme. A new 120-metre zipline course will offer visitors a different kind of thrill between concerts. Meanwhile, the El Presidio rock bar area will remain one of the festival’s central meeting points, featuring DJ performances, various shows and interactive activities.

The festival will also introduce changes to its transport and payment systems. Alcatraz is moving to a cashless system this year, using a wristband-based "chains" system for purchases inside the festival area. Visitors will be able to top up their wristbands with cash or card, while refunds for unused balances will be processed free of charge.

On the accommodation side, Camping Graveyard continues to expand its festival village concept with a capacity approaching 10,000 residents. A newly added supermarket, improved sanitary facilities, yoga areas, food options and chill-out zones aim to enhance the camping experience. For those looking for a more comfortable stay, the Eagle Plaza glamping area will offer different accommodation options as well as a 24-hour delivery service.

Alcatraz Open Air is also continuing its sustainability efforts. Reusable cup systems, recycling initiatives, solar-powered areas and the redistribution of abandoned camping equipment are among the measures introduced to reduce the festival’s environmental impact.

Welcoming metal fans from more than 70 countries, the festival aims to bring the international metal community together in Kortrijk once again for its 2026 edition. The festival app will provide access to schedules, stage information, maps and the latest updates.
