Polish band BURNING CREATION have released a new single, ‘Cannibal Viking’, ahead of their upcoming second studio album, “Breath of Fire”. The track serves as the album’s second preview and reflects the band’s evolving sound, which draws more heavily on the traditions of Swedish death metal than their earlier material.

Formed in Żywiec in 2022 by the Klimond brothers, BURNING CREATION initially built their sound around melodic death metal and viking metal. With their new material, however, they are pushing these elements into the background in favour of a rawer, more direct approach rooted in old-school death metal. Influences from Swedish death metal acts such as Unleashed, Hypocrisy and Dark Tranquillity are evident, with heaviness and a dark atmosphere taking centre stage.

The new single ‘Cannibal Viking’ reflects not only the album’s musical direction but also the moral questions underlying its lyrics. Marek Klimonda explains that the track might initially seem to tell a story about cannibalism, but its real subject is how far a person is willing to go to survive, even at the cost of losing the last remnants of their humanity.

Due for release on November 13, 2026, through Via Nocturna on CD and digital formats, “Breath of Fire” features seven new songs alongside an atmospheric intro. Its narrative continues the story of warriors rising from their graves to avenge what was lost after humanity abandoned its ancient beliefs and values. Drawing on Norse mythology, the album explores themes including the final battle between Vidar and Fenrir, the underwater realm of Ægir and Ran, and the land of eternal frost awaiting those who did not die in battle.

Following the previously released ‘Nothing’s Gonna Save You’, ‘Cannibal Viking’ marks the second single from the upcoming album. The drums and bass were recorded at Sound Stone Studio in collaboration with Paweł Kurowski, while guitars and vocals were tracked at Marek Stefaniak’s studio. Stefaniak also handled the album’s mixing and mastering. The cover artwork was created by Damian Bydliński.
