Dutch experimental duo DEAD NEANDERTHALS have announced that their new studio album, “Flesh is Fragile”, will be released on October 2. Built around grindcore, doom, and sludge, the album pushes the band’s experimental approach to combining electronics, noise, drone, and metal into darker and more intense territory.

Featuring Otto Kokke on synthesizer and René Aquarius on drums and vocals, DEAD NEANDERTHALS have spent their career bringing together different sonic worlds without being confined to any particular genre framework. That approach remains intact on “Flesh is Fragile”, while the duo places a greater emphasis on a heavier, more metal-oriented sound.

One of the album’s notable changes is the shorter length of its compositions compared to the band’s previous work. Kokke and Aquarius describe reducing the songs to a more compact form as one of the key new elements of the album’s creation process. The six-track release will run for just over 30 minutes in total.

The vocal approach has also taken a more extreme turn. Aquarius says he pushed his vocal style in different directions during the recording process, aiming for a more intense and unrestrained screaming style. Kokke, meanwhile, focused on extracting heavier and more unusual sounds from his synthesizers.

  4. 'hollowed-out existence'

  5. 'a leather body bag for the mass grave called society'

  6. 'buried in a shallow grave'

DEAD NEANDERTHALS’ new album “Flesh is Fragile” will be released on October 2 in LP and digital formats. While retaining the duo’s experimental trajectory, the album will move forward through shorter compositions, intense vocals, and a heavier musical framework.
