French atmospheric black metal outfit Hanternoz are set to return with their long-awaited third studio album, A Hed an Noz, a Noz, a Noz. The record will be released on August 7 via Antiq and stands out with a conceptual framework that merges Breton folklore with a dark narrative approach.

The band’s new release consists of seven tracks, with each song drawing inspiration from supernatural figures rooted in Breton folk tales. Fairies, demonic entities, spirits of the dead, and mysterious forest guardians all take center stage within a narrative that intertwines historical events with childhood memories throughout the album. The story revolves around psychological and emotional confrontations unfolding during a single sleepless night, where fear, anger, despair, joy, and sorrow all become integral parts of this oppressive atmosphere.

The album artwork features one of the most powerful symbols of Breton culture: Ankou. This legendary figure, regarded as the embodiment of Death itself, is depicted alongside a death cart at the center of the cover, while a cursed human companion is condemned to pay for his regrets on an endless journey between life and death. The sunset-drenched visual places a distant, warm house in the background, symbolizing a faint spark of hope within the album’s otherwise bleak thematic landscape.

The French label Antiq, active since 2009, is known for its holistic approach to music that goes beyond sound alone. Treating conceptual albums, visual art, and physical design as a unified whole, the label consistently prioritizes collaboration with French artists and independent creative structures.

Hanternoz have also unveiled the first taste of the album with the track “Jean-du-Feu.”
