MOTHER OF GRAVES Release New Video; Dan Swanö to Guest on Album
MOTHER OF GRAVES find hope within darkness
Indianapolis-based death/doom metal band MOTHER OF GRAVES have released the single ‘The Silent Weight Of The Stars’ and its accompanying music video from their upcoming album "The Light That Keeps Us", due out October 16 via Profound Lore Records. One of the album’s notable details is the guest vocal appearance by Dan Swanö on ‘Wingless Soul’.
‘The Silent Weight Of The Stars’ continues the band’s approach of combining the aggressive force of death metal with the melancholic and romantic character of melodic doom. Vocalist and keyboardist Brandon Howe says the song’s lyrics revolve around the search for meaning, the pursuit of an estranged yet timeless love, ghost-like traces of memory, and the hope that remains even in the face of defeat.
Guitarist Chris Morrison, meanwhile, says the song began with a main riff he could not get out of his head, with the track taking shape around that idea. According to Morrison, the guitar harmonies and work of the rhythm section, combined with the intensified section toward the end of the song, create a more dynamic structure. This approach is also reflected in the dark and cinematic narrative chosen for the band’s music video.
"The Light That Keeps Us" will follow MOTHER OF GRAVES’ 2022 album "The Periapt Of Absence". The eight-track album once again features Dan Swanö, with whom the band have worked for years on the mastering stage, but this time he contributes guest vocals to ‘Wingless Soul’. Guitarist Ben Sandman handles the album’s production, while the cover artwork was created by Larisa Brechun.
