NORTH SEA ECHOES Return With New Video
Dark Progressive Echoes
Featuring progressive metal veterans Ray Alder and Jim Matheos, NORTH SEA ECHOES have released the music video for the track ‘I’ll Leave A Light On’, taken from their new album "How To Cast A Shadow". Released through Metal Blade Records, the album represents the continuation of a new creative chapter for the duo, highlighting their darker and more emotional side.
The collaborative project of FATES WARNING members Ray Alder (vocals) and Jim Matheos (guitars), NORTH SEA ECHOES further expands upon their atmospheric approach, combining progressive rock elements with melancholic textures. ‘I’ll Leave A Light On’ stands out as one of the tracks that reflects the band’s evolution following their debut album "Really Good Terrible Things", featuring a heavier approach and a more intense atmosphere.
Alder explains that the lyrics were inspired by a character from one of his favorite science fiction series, adding that the song fits naturally within the album’s overall dark and melancholic atmosphere. Matheos, meanwhile, notes that the new record features a greater use of real drums, a development that emerged organically through the songwriting process rather than as a deliberate change.
The extensive legacy and experience of the two musicians, shaped through decades within FATES WARNING, form the foundation of NORTH SEA ECHOES’ distinctive identity. Alder’s powerful vocal delivery and Matheos’ signature guitar approach create a broader, cinematic, and emotionally charged soundscape throughout the new album.
"How To Cast A Shadow" offers a wide spectrum ranging from calm, introspective passages to powerful progressive rock moments. Exploring themes such as hope, loss, memory, and the human experience, the album’s atmospheric character is strengthened by the combination of Matheos’ melodic guitar work and Alder’s expressive vocals.
NORTH SEA ECHOES’ "How To Cast A Shadow" is available now on CD and digital formats via Metal Blade Records. The album features a total of 11 tracks, including ‘A Time Of Innocence And Purpose’, ‘Enjoy The View’, ‘Villains Or Saints’, and the title track ‘How To Cast A Shadow’.
