Saint Petersburg post-black metal band SOMN will release its second studio album, “Consecration,” on November 20 via AOP Records. The announcement is accompanied by the new track ‘The Loyal Hand,’ which is now available through the band’s official YouTube channel.

Formed in 2017 by guitarist Oleg Salnikov and drummer Timur Yusupov, SOMN soon completed its lineup with bassist Mikhail Kurochkin and guitarist Artem Selyugin. The musicians are connected to Saint Petersburg underground acts including SHOW ME A DINOSAUR, TRNA, and Olhava. Taking its name from the god of sleep, the band builds a conceptual approach around trauma, deep fears, and nightmares.

That approach takes on a darker framework on the band’s second album, “Consecration.” The record centers on the story of a man crushed within the machinery of other people’s ambitions. Blind submission, the madness born of bloodshed, and the destruction of identity form the album’s central narrative, while grand ideals and lofty rhetoric are ultimately confronted with rivers of blood spilled in vain.

“Consecration” will mark the first collaboration between SOMN and AOP Records. The label is also currently home to SHOW ME A DINOSAUR, with whom the band has previously worked. The new album is described as a further intensification of the heavy and threatening atmosphere established across SOMN’s earlier work.

SOMN’s discography began with the 2019 album “The All-devouring,” released on vinyl by Elusive Sound. The record brought together the band’s black metal and post-rock roots through intense performances and intricate songwriting. In 2022, the band joined forces with fellow Saint Petersburg act WOWOD for the split EP “Obrechenie,” released through Church Road Records.

“Consecration” will be released internationally on November 20. The cover artwork, created by Timothy Yusupov, and the album’s tracklist were also unveiled alongside the announcement.
