Icelandic black metal outfit Vafurlogi is preparing to return with its long-awaited second full-length album, Gneisti af eldi Guðs. The record is set for release on June 26 through a collaboration between NoEvDia and Oration Records.

Following the band's debut album, this new work brings to light compositions that reach back into Vafurlogi's past. It is stated that the foundations of some of the tracks date as far back as 2007, with these pieces having been developed and reshaped over the years before ultimately evolving into a cohesive body of work. The end result is a substantial album that remains rooted in melodic black metal while also standing out through its strong atmospheric character.

While Gneisti af eldi Guðs draws inspiration from the melodic black metal tradition of the 1990s, it also incorporates elements of the orthodox black metal approach that gained momentum in the years that followed. The balance it strikes between dark, aggressive passages and epic, ascending moments brings Vafurlogi's musical identity into sharper focus.

On the lyrical front, the band continues to explore themes centered on humanity's relationship with the sacred. Examined through an existential lens, this approach emerges as one of the defining elements shaping the album's overall atmosphere. It is also noted that the cover artwork visually reflects the contrast between light and darkness that runs throughout the record.

Recorded at Studio Emissary under the guidance of Stephen Lockhart, the album's production is said to have been crafted in a way that preserves the natural character of the songs. In doing so, the compositions—refined and matured over many years—are intended to reach listeners with both power and clarity.
