Swedish heavy metal act WATCHER has unveiled their new track 'Chalice of Light' ahead of the release of their second studio album, "Mistress of Our Time", due out on September 25 via Dying Victims Productions. The song, which marks the second preview from the upcoming album, was initially released through Metal.de.

Formed in 2023 by vocalist Viktor Gustafsson, WATCHER originally started as a one-man project. During this period, with Gustafsson handling all instrumental and recording duties, the band released their debut album "Key to the Unbreachable" in 2024, followed by the "Glory or Agony" EP. These releases established WATCHER’s musical direction, rooted in the traditions of early 1980s Swedish heavy metal.

By late 2024, WATCHER evolved into a full lineup with the addition of guitarist Max Warnby and drummer Jakob Nilsson. The band released the "Chains of Crystal" EP in spring 2025 and shortly afterwards performed at the Muskelrock festival. Later that year, second guitarist Timmy Lindgren joined the group, leading to the start of work on the new full-length album.

The upcoming "Mistress of Our Time" continues WATCHER’s dedication to the legacy of classic heavy metal while expanding it into a more comprehensive and developed form. The band combines influences from Swedish heavy metal pioneers such as Heavy Load, Gotham City, Axewitch, Torch, and Hot Records-era Europe with the cult sounds of acts like Ostrogoth, Grim Reaper, and Sortilège, shaping them through their own atmospheric approach.

While WATCHER’s previous recordings aimed to revive the spirit of the 1980s, the new album seeks to capture the energy of that era through a broader and more powerful sound. Rather than competing in a race for speed, "Mistress of Our Time" focuses on strong melodies, epic compositions, and the atmosphere of classic heavy metal.
