WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS TO EMBARK ON FIRST EUROPEAN TOUR AFTER 20 YEARS
Twenty years later, Europe finally awaits.
Connecticut-based dark sludge band WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS will perform in Europe for the first time in their 20-year career. The band will hit the road as part of David Ellefson's Bass Warrior Tour, with the 12-date European leg kicking off in Rome on December 3 and concluding in Zagreb on December 19.
Alongside their first European tour, two of the band's previously sold-out albums will also return. Argonauta Records will reissue 2010's "The Last Day of Sun" and "Drifting Toward the Edge of the Earth".
Recorded between 2008 and 2009 and released in 2010, "The Last Day of Sun" was made largely using analog equipment. In recent months, WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS revisited the album and completely reworked its mixing and mastering. According to the band, the new version features the same songs as the original recording but carries a different character.

"Drifting Toward the Edge of the Earth", meanwhile, will return in its original form. Both albums have reportedly been sold out for some time, and the new editions will be released through Argonauta Records.
Another release tied specifically to the band's European visit will arrive through FuzzTown Records. Titled "The Weight We Carry", the limited-edition cassette brings together 10 songs spanning different periods of WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS' discography. The tape will also be accompanied by a limited run of tour shirts, available exclusively during the European tour. Any remaining copies are planned to be made available later through the band's Bandcamp page.
The European tour will cover Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Ireland, Slovakia, Serbia and Croatia. The band's German date is scheduled for December 10 at Burghof Hühnerstall in Frankfurt.
Earlier this year, WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS also contributed a track to Cathedral of Smoke, a Sleep tribute project. The band's latest full-length, "In the Glow of the Vatican Fire", was released in 2025.
The band describes its first European visit as a significant milestone in its 20-year history, while acknowledging that the tour represents a major undertaking for a band that has always operated on its own terms. WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS also say they are looking forward to performing in Europe for the first time while meeting new people and experiencing new cities and cultures.
