LENG TCH’E Return with “Hammered Into Collapse” After Nine Years of Silence
Nine years later, silence finally cracks
Belgian grindcore band LENG TCH’E have ended their nearly nine-year recording hiatus following 2017’s “Razorgrind” with the release of ‘Hammered into Collapse’ today. Released via Season of Mist, the track is accompanied by an official music video.
‘Hammered into Collapse’ opens the band’s two-track self-titled EP, due out on October 23. Alongside the title track, the EP will feature the previously unreleased ‘Voided’, bringing the total runtime to 4 minutes and 55 seconds. A pre-save page for the new EP is also now available.
At the heart of the track is the image of a parasite that has spent twenty years consuming its host without ever being satisfied. This idea is reflected in lyrics that approach a reckoning with wasted time through the experience of mental collapse. The recurring phrases “mind turning black”, “cerebral hijack” and “neural hijack” form the backbone of the track’s increasingly claustrophobic structure. ‘Voided’, meanwhile, takes the same idea of collapse beyond the individual, extending from mental disintegration into a broader darkness.
The new material also brings notable names into the production process. The recordings were made at Hearse Studio with Lander Cluyse, while Taylor Young handled the mixing at The Pit Recording Studio and Brad Boatright mastered the release at Audiosiege. Young’s work with bands such as GOD’S HATE, FULL OF HELL and VITRIOL offers a significant indication of the production approach behind the new material, placing it within the current grindcore and death metal spectrum.
LENG TCH’E formed in Ghent in 2001 and made their name in grindcore circles during their early years with releases such as “Death by a Thousand Cuts”, “ManMadePredator” and “The Process of Elimination”. After joining Relapse Records in 2005, the band appeared at festivals including Furyfest, Graspop, Summer Breeze and Maryland Deathfest. Following the departure of founding drummer Sven De Caluwé after 2007’s “Marasmus”, the lineup was left without any of its founding members.
LENG TCH’E continued after this transition, releasing “Hypomanic” in 2010 before returning nine years later with “Razorgrind” in 2017. The latter directly took its name from the “razorgrind” approach the band had developed over the years. Although no new recordings emerged during the subsequent period, the band did not completely step away from the stage, continuing to perform at various festivals across Europe and the UK.
After nearly nine years of recording silence, LENG TCH’E are now returning with a lineup consisting of Serge Kasongo, Jan Hallaert, Olivier Coppens and Nicolas Malfeyt. The full “Hammered Into Collapse” EP will be released on October 23.
